Med Ride Transportation Services came from an experience my dad and I had after a visit to the ER at a local hospital. Afterward, my father’s insurance company refused to transport him back home. At the time my father was 83 years old, non-ambulatory and wheelchair bound.
It took 6 nurses and a security guard to squeeze my 6’ 4” father into my Toyota Corolla. It was horrible and heart breaking. He barely fit into the car because his legs are so long. I got my Daddy home, and I got a Hoyer Lift (a device used to lift people with mobility challenges) and slowly extracted him from the car. What an awful experience for any human, let alone an 83-year-old.
That was the spark that ignited me to purchase a wheelchair accessible van so that my dad would never be transported without adequate transportation again. How many other elderly or wheelchair bound/disabled persons are there who need a service like this? Most existing transportation service providers require 24-hour notice to give you a ride. I decided I wanted to provide a service that would better fill these needs.
